  • Stroke
Stroke (Cerebral Vascular Accident) is a leading cause of disability in adults. At ACTIVE REHAB, INC, our physical therapist will help you improve walking and balance, train you on how to use assistive devices, and provide training for your caregivers. The goal of your physical therapist is to help you regain functional skills after a stroke, so you can get back to your life.
  • Multiple sclerosis
Physical therapy helps you manage all the stages of MS. They can help alleviate the symptoms including pain management, decreasing spasms, reducing tightness, improving strength, balance and improving the range of movement which will help in completing the functional activities more easily and safely. Physical therapists can complete the evaluation and instruct in the safe and correct use of any assistive device including wheelchair, walker, cane.
  • Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive neurological disease that affects the central nervous system and the ability to coordinate movement in the body. Parkinson’s Disease affects many areas of the brain, symptoms can vary in individuals with progression varying from mild, moderate, or aggressive. Parkinson’s Disease typically affects one’s ability to walk with slower movements and difficulty with starting or stopping walking. In addition, movements tend to become slower along with tremors that may occur in the hands. Muscles can become quite rigid, leading to loss of motion and poor posture. A dangerous symptom is called retropulsion, where an individual tends to fall backward with little to no ability to protect oneself.
  • LSVT BIG
With over 20 years of research, the program has shown documented improvements of faster walking and bigger steps, improved balance, and increased trunk rotation. LSVT BIG is a standardized treatment protocol that is customized to the unique goals of each person including both gross and fine motor skills. LSVT BIG can be adapted or progressed to meet each person’s needs across a range of disease severity and presenting impairments.

LSVT BIG uses large-amplitude training to bring out improved, healthy movements that are more normal. Our LSVT certified physical therapists are dedicated to helping you achieve a pain-free life.

Treatment is administered in 16 sessions over a single month (four individual 60-minute sessions per week). This intensive mode of administration is consistent with theories of motor learning and skill acquisition, as well as with principles of neural plasticity (the capacity of the nervous system to change in response to signals), and is critical to attaining optimal results. The treatment not only simulates the motor system but also incorporates sensory awareness training to help individuals with PD recognize that their movements are too small, convincing them that the bigger movements are within normal limits, and making them comfortable with their new bigger, faster and safer walking, dressing and other activities

Research has also proven for LSVT to help improve the symptoms of Stroke patients.
